As Lane “Surefour” Roberts took to Twitter to announce his plans of taking a break from competitive Overwatch. Surefour is a well-known DPS by OWL fans but he will be sorely absent in next year's competition.

He has been a consistent source of damage for the teams he has played for. Consequently, he often acts as the linchpin for their offensive efforts. Surefour has had an extensive stint in OWL, but it's time to take a pause.

The Canadian DPS has competed for close to three years in the Overwatch League primarily for teams. He first found success in the league playing for the Los Angeles Gladiators and most recently fought under the Toronto Defiant flag. Surefour enjoyed mixed success in OWL across his playtime on both teams. He most recently finished 3rd-4th with the Defiant in the OWL2020 Summer Showdown Major.

It's not uncommon for professional players to feel burned out from their rigorous training. Most players soldier on to try and make their big break but taking a breather is necessary. His awareness of the pressures of competing at a high level on his mental state is important. Undoubtedly, Surefour's decision to take care of himself is a commendable one. Professional players should all be wary of the rigors of high-level play on their psyche. Winning may be important for all pros but remaining psychologically healthy is also important.

There is currently no statement from the Toronto Defiant management regarding this announcement. This decision to take a break from OWL has effectively marked Surefour as an unrestricted free agent in the 2021 season.
