The NFL may not have seen the best out of Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt just yet.

After a historic 2021 season, Watt, as he noted on Thursday during Steelers OTAs, sees that he can still give much more to Pittsburgh on the defensive side of the ball.

“I feel like my best football is ahead of me,” Watt said.

After finishing second in the final vote for the 2020 NFL Defensive Player of the Year honor, Watt sure entered the 2021 campaign with a chip on his shoulder. He emerged as the most revered pass rusher in all the NFL last year, racking up double-digits in sacks for the fourth straight season. He wound up tying Michael Strahan’s mark in 2001 for the most sacks in a single season with a staggering 22.5.

Watt bolstered his career resume over the season, which included a Pro Bowl appearance and a selection in the All-Pro first-team. However, individual honors are not at the top of his list of goals in his career. Instead, he is eyeing the biggest prize in the sport.

“The number one goal has always been to win the Super Bowl,” Watt said.

The Steelers enter the 2022 campaign with plenty of question marks across the board, from just who will replace Ben Roethlisberger as their new starting quarterback to whether their rush defense will orchestrate a bounce-back season.

In the big picture, Watt and the Steelers will at the least have multiple pivotal battles ahead in the AFC North.
