No surprises here—T1 and Edward Gaming (EDG) trampled over Group B on their way to the 2021 League of Legends World Championship knockout stage. And a testament to their dominance, China and Korea's representatives didn't even need all the games to do it. NA's 100 Thieves and Japan's DetonatioN FocusMe (DFM) both knew their tragic fates were sealed early in the day.

T1, EDG rack up wins early

LPL champions EDG got off to a perfect start to their Worlds run, posting up a 3-0 record by the end of the first round robin. They began the second round robin day just as emphatically, securing a crushing 25-minute victory over DFM. The LJL representatives only managed to get two kills and zero objectives that game, while EDG amassed a gold lead over 10,000 by the game's end.

Unsurprisingly, Park “Viper” Do-hyeon's Miss Fortune performance was nothing short of spectacular, as the AD Carry ended with a KDA of 5/0/5. Meanwhile, top laner Li “Flandre” Xuan-Jun also wreaked havoc on Jayce, accounting for nearly half the team's total damage against champions.

With the 4-0 record, EDG looked poised to follow in the footsteps of Korea's Damwon Gaming, who went 6-0 in Group A yesterday. T1, however, stopped the undefeated train promptly after. The LCK runners-up suffered their sole loss in the first round robin at the hands of the Chinese powerhouse, so this time around they came for revenge.

After a rather non-bloody early game, T1 found a decisive fight in the mid lane around 15 minutes into the match. A Yuumi ult from Tian “Meiko” Ye rooted up Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok's Twisted Fate, prompting Viper to unleash Miss Fortune's Bullet Time. But with a well-timed stopwatch, Faker avoided practically all of the bullets.

T1 jumped back into the fight as Moon “Oner” Hyeon-joon's Poppy and Kim “Canna” Chang-dong's Kennen engaged onto Flandre, deleting the Jayce off the map. The Korean squad found three kills that fight followed by a Herald push on two mid lane turrets—suddenly blowing the game open. The nexus exploded 10 minutes later, as T1 ended with 10 kills and 10 turrets to a singular kill on EDG's end.

100 Thieves end Worlds bid in style

T1 ended the day atop Group B with an impressive 5-1 record, showing no mercy against DFM who went winless in the group. Meanwhile, EDG dropped to 4-2 as 100 Thieves played spoiler against the Chinese squad for the last game of the day.

Unable to replicate Cloud9's clutch run yesterday, 100 Thieves had an uninspiring—though not entirely unexpected—groups showing. The LCS squad secured two wins against DFM, but couldn't make a meaningful dent against either the LCK or LPL giants. They did, however, go out with a bang before heading home, snatching a win over EDG.

100 Thieves had arguably their strongest showing of the tournament, with everyone stepping up in a 35-minute bloodbath. They hit EDG for 21 kills, off the back of a 7/0/7 Lucian performance from Ian Victor “FBI” Huang and an equally impressive 90% kill participation Viego helmed by Can “Closer” Çelik.

It was too little too late, though. An even record at 3-3 wasn't enough to propel 100 Thieves to the knockout stage. T1 will have to say thanks, though, as NA's upset win helped the LCK team clinch the top seed out of the group.

After cruising through the group stage, T1 and EDG now join Damwon and Cloud9 as Worlds quarterfinalists. As it stands, Royal Never Give Up (RNG) is the only remaining team with the chance to go undefeated in groups, potentially matching Damwon's record. RNG take the stage tomorrow in Group C, facing off against Europe's Fnatic.
