The Minnesota Timberwolves last weekend made another splash in free agency with the addition of veteran forward Taj Gibson on a two-year, $28 million deal.

It has brought back Gibson to play alongside his former Chicago Bulls‘ teammate Jimmy Butler, who he has revealed kept pushing him to join him in Minnesota, according to Nick Friedell of ESPN.

It has become a rarity in sports where players are able to play with each other again on teams in their respective NBA career. The Timberwolves not only provide both Butler and Gibson that, but they also get t0 play under their former head coach Tom Thibodeau.

This could help beyond just bringing another piece to strengthen their bench as it adds another player already familiar with the system that Thibodeau runs. This could lead to more efficient play on the floor with another veteran presence to help mentor the younger players on the team.

Gibson could also help ease the transition process for both himself and Butler next season given their strong bond with each other. This could also lend well to the helping set a winning culture on the team with two veteran players leading the way of what type of team that Thibodeau wants to run.

There are many more benefits to this move beyond just the two former Bulls' player reuniting under their former head coach.
