With Drew Brees calling it a career this past season, the New Orleans Saints will usher in a new era at quarterback. This off-season will see whether the starting job will go to Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston.

Hill, however, doesn't think any issues will get between himself and Winston when Saints training camp starts. Instead, the 30-year old is focused on becoming the best version of himself in order to help the team win.

Via John DeShazier of the Saints official website:

“I think historically, as a competitor (and) as a player, the competition really becomes with yourself,” Hill said Tuesday, after playing in the celebrity shootout, an event that precedes this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans at TPC Louisiana.

“It's not between you and one other player. It's, man, you're trying to be as good as you possibly can that day and every day, be as consistent as you can. As an athlete and as someone who has been in a lot of competitions, the mind-set is always the same.”

That's definitely right mindset to go about the situation. Obviously, athletes like Hill and Winston are very competitive and individually, they would like nothing more than to be the featured lead role for the Saints instead of taking the backseat. However, as the 30-year old showed with his answer, he is very much a professional as well.

Hill got the chance to start four games for the Saints last season when Brees went down with rib fractures midway through the 2020 season. He made the most of his opportunity, helping lead the Saints to three wins during that stretch.

Winston, despite playing just four games last season with the Saints, could still be a viable option, considering he served as the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers through the majority of the first five years of his career after being a former No. 1 overall pick.

Whatever happens during the off-season, however, it seems like Hill is all in with the Saints.
