Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich wasn't in the mood for fake news and slander after his team dropped another tough loss against Team Australia on Monday. The San Antonio Spurs head coach chimed in after what a reporter seemed to have suggested multiple times that the national team should be blowing out teams like Australia and Nigeria as they gear up for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

ā€œYou asked the same sort of question last time where you assumed things that are not true. ā€ Pop said before being interrupted by the reporter. ā€œCan I finish? Can I finish my statement? Are you going to let me finish my statement or not?ā€ the Team USA head coach went on as the reporter continued to butt in.

ā€œWhen you make statements about, in the past, just blowing out these other teams ā€“ number one, you give no respect to the other teams,ā€ Pop added. ā€œI talked to you the last time about the same thing, we've had very close games against four of five countries in all these tournaments. So, the good teams do not get blown out. There are certain games that might happen in one of these tournaments like the World Championships or the Olympics where somebody gets blown out but in general, nobody is blowing anybody out for the good teams. So when you make a statement like that, you assume that's what's going on. And, that's incorrect.ā€

Pop and the rest of Team USA are currently in hot water after the star-studded team featuring Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, Draymond Green, and Jayson Tatum (to name a few), has now suffered two disappointing losses in three days.

To echo what the 72-year-old mentor was mentioning, it is quite audacious to expect the team to just blow out their international opponents but it is quite fair to expect this current 12-man roster to at least get some wins. Hopefully, things start falling their way as they face more tough squads like Argentina and Spain in the coming days.
