Team Australia broke Team USA's 78-game winning streak in major international competition with a 98-94 victory in their exhibition match on Saturday. The 52,019 fans who filled Marvel Stadium in Melbourne went bonkers throughout the last few minutes as Australia made a run to close out the Americans. Likewise, the Boomers were fired up after the game for their impressive victory.

However, some Team USA players downplayed their loss. Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker just shrugged it off and said the games that will matter will be the ones in China, where the 2019 FIBA World Cup will take place:

“They say Team USA doesn’t lose, I get it, they haven’t lost in a very long time, which I understand, but it happens,” said Celtics guard Kemba Walker, per Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “Teams lose. We are just going to take this loss and build from it, that’s all we can do is continue to try our best to get better.

“The real thing doesn’t start until China, so we’ve got one more game. We’re going to head to Sydney and focus on Canada and from that point out the real thing starts. That’s all we are worried about, just continuing to get better, continuing to learn each other.”

The loss made headlines everywhere as Team USA hadn't lost in international basketball since 2006. The Aussies were certainly fired up with how their squad performed, even if it came against a depleted and watered-down version of Team USA.

The victory was impressive nonetheless, as this solidifies Australia as a legitimate threat in the upcoming global tournament, which begins on Aug. 31. Team USA, however, is still the favorite to win gold when all is said and done.

San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills erupted down the stretch for the Boomers with 13 of his 30 points coming in the fourth quarter. He also scored the final 10 points for Australia to close out the Americans.

As Walker said, Team USA will face Canada on Monday in their final tune-up match before the real games begin.
