Milwaukee Bucks small forward Khris Middleton says Team USA has “the group text going already” as they work on bonding.
Team USA will take 12 players to China to compete in the FIBA World Cup. Since the majority of the players on the roster have no experience playing with each other, Middleton says it's important the guys get to know each other, both on and off the court.
“We’ve got the group text going already,” Middleton said, via Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. “Practices, we’re constantly talking to each other. The bus rides, the breakfast meetings when there’s no phones, just getting to know each other to see what they’re all about, see how they are, just get to know them.”
Team USA had a rough day on Wednesday, as the Senior Team lost a scrimmage to a team of mostly G League players. Things on the court have to get better if Team USA wants to win the FIBA World Cup for the third straight time.
Middleton should be a lock to make the team, although things could change. The Bucks swingman averaged 18.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists last season for Milwaukee while shooting 44.1 percent from the field, 37.8 percent from beyond the arc and 83.7 percent from the free-throw line.
