Video: Team USA coach Gregg Popovich shows off his hustle during exhibition win over Australia

Team USA, Gregg Popovich

Team USA head coach Gregg Popovich is 70 years of age, but his hustle along the sidelines in Thursday’s exhibition game against Australia proves that he still has wheels.

During the third quarter of Thursday’s matchup, Australian point guard Patty Mills grabbed a loose ball rebound near the sideline. He threw the ball ahead, looking for a fast-break opportunity. However, none of his teammates were able to corral the pass.

Cue Gregg Popovich, stage left …

Seeing that the ball was careening out of bounds, Popovich hustled his way down the sideline to recover it. Fans in attendance let out a playful cheer as the legendary play caller flashed a smile and made his way back to the bench:

Team USA pulled away from Australia in the second half of Thursday’s exhibition game inside Marvel Stadium. In the end, the American side bested the Boomers by a tally of 102-86. Boston Celtics All-Star Kemba Walker led the way for Team USA with 23 points. Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma went 4-of-5 from 3-point territory, only missing one attempt at the end of the first quarter. Australia was led by Mills (19 points) and Chris Goulding (19 points).

Team USA will face the Australian side again — this matchup on Saturday, Aug. 24. Tip-off for that game is set for midnight ET. The American side will then close out their exhibition slate with a game against Canada on Aug. 26.
