Tekken 7 has sold more than 9 million copies worldwide, announced series director Katsuhiro Harada on Twitter. This makes Tekken 7 the best-selling game in the series, which has sold over 53 million copies.
Tekken 7 was first released as an arcade-only game in March 2015. An enhanced version, dubbed Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, came to arcades in July 2016. The Fated Retribution version, featuring new stages, costumes, items, and characters, was the version that released in June 2017 for more platforms; PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
Tekken 7 introduced Rage Arts and Rage Drive, among other things. These features made it more beginner friendly, and could be responsible for its commercial success. The game's online play keeps its player base active at all skill levels, and due to the beginner-friendly features, players at any skill level can enjoy playing the game.
The Tekken series itself has been a mainstay in the fighting game genre. It began in 1994, and has since released nine more games in the series. After selling 53 million copies, it has now sold more than one of its major competitors, Street Fighter, which sits at 47 million.
