It was an interesting year for the Tennessee Titans, to say the least. After dealing with a ton of injuries the team somehow found a way to clinch the number one seed in the AFC. Unfortunately, Tennessee's Super Bowl hopes were diminished in the Divisional Round. Heading into the 2022 offseason, the front office will have some tough decisions to make. For that reason, we take a look at who could be a surprise Titans roster cut.

For the most part, Tennessee is stacked with talent. The front office should try to retain the core of the team, as continuity should help the Titans improve. However, this franchise needs to make the right decisions, as they're currently in a Super Bowl window right now. There are only two reasons a player would be cut in the 2022 offseason. Either, their release saves the team money in cap space or the player didn't meet expectations at all.

We'll see what the roster looks like but the front office has a plethora of routes to construct the team. At the end of the day, only one player stands out as a potential surprise cut victim. Although the Titans need depth at wide receiver, Tennessee could pull the trigger and release Julio Jones.

With that said, here is our potential surprise Titans roster cut in the 2022 offseason.

Surprise Titans Roster Cut in 2022 Offseason

Julio Jones

It was incredibly exciting when the Titans traded for Julio Jones. On paper, having Jones in the lineup gave Tennessee one of the best offenses in the league. Instead, the future Hall of Fame receiver failed to make much noise at all. Maybe he just didn't click with Ryan Tannehill or perhaps he wasn't a good match for the offensive scheme.

Julio Jones made highlight plays sporadically, but it was never consistent. He also dealt with a hamstring injury throughout the season, preventing him from making much of an impact for the Titans. There is reason to believe Jones will stay on the roster and improve next season, but we've now seen two dud years in a row for the legendary receiver.

At 33 years old, Jones is not getting any younger. The Titans need healthy and reliable pass catchers to truly improve the offense. We should see a ton of new faces join the wide receiver and tight end groups. However, the question remains, will Julio Jones remain a part of this roster?

Cutting Jones isn't an ideal scenario, but it's not like it's the end of the world either. Releasing him puts just over $4 million of dead cap on the Titans' salary. Tennessee can easily afford to release the long time great if the front office feels it's the best decision. On top of that, they still have decent draft capital for the upcoming NFL Draft, as the front office didn't give up that much to acquire Julio Jones in the first place.

Additionally, there should be some solid free agents available in the 2022 offseason for the Titans to replace him with. Couple that with the incoming receiver class in this year's draft and Tennessee could give themselves a legitimate group of pass-catchers, with or without Julio Jones.

We'll see how it all plays out, as the Titans roster is stacked throughout. This team is likely to make the playoffs next year as well, especially since the front office has already made improvements to the offensive coaching staff. Keep an eye on Julio Jones and Tennessee, as he could be a surprise cut victim in the 2022 offseason.
