After years of lobbying to be inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, former San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys star, Terrell Owens, has finally gotten his wish. However, that's not the end of the story for the controversial wide receiver, who is still hoping a team will sign the 44-year-old, as he has now declined an invitation to the induction ceremony.

Owens made the following statement about his decision not to show up for the ceremony, via ESPN.

“While I am incredibly appreciative of this opportunity, I have made the decision to publicly decline my invitation to attend the induction ceremony in Canton,” Owens said in a statement released Thursday. “… After visiting Canton earlier this year, I came to the realization that I wish to celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life, elsewhere.”

This is an interesting and somewhat perplexing decision by Owens considering his desire to be in the Hall of Fame. There's no doubt that his decision won't sit well with the decision makers let alone his fellow Hall of Famers.

Owens joins a star-studded list of players to be inducted this year. Fellow superstar wideout Randy Moss will also be inducted with Owens along with Brian Urlacher, Brian Dawkins and arguably the headliner in two-time Super Bowl champion Ray Lewis.

The induction ceremony will take place on Aug. 4 in Canton, Ohio which will be two days after the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears go head-to-head in the Hall of Fame game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
