Terrell Owens’ Net Worth in 2021 (estimate): $500,000

Terrell Owens' net worth, Terrell Owens

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Terrell Owens has an estimated net worth of $500,000.

Despite being one of the best to ever play the game and being part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Owens’ current net worth can be attributed to his off-the-field issues and controversies.

Terrell Owens was born in Alexander City, Alabama. He attended Benjamin Russell High School where he played football, baseball, track, and basketball. After graduating, Owens attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

During his college player, Owens was a multi-sport athlete. He played in the 1995 NCAA basketball tournament, he was a key part of the school’s 4 x 100 relay team, and he was also an excellent football player where he was selected to participate in the Senior Bowl — a college all-star game played by seniors in preparation for the NFL Draft.

UT-Chattanooga didn’t necessarily attract attention from NFL scouts, that’s why Terrell Owens dropped down to the third round of the NFL Draft where he was selected with the 89th overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers. He signed a rookie contract worth  $840,000 for three years.

Owens played for nine seasons with the 49ers as he became one of their best players. He broke a 50-year-old record held by Tom Fears after making 20 catches in one game — the record is since broken by Brandon Marshall with 21 receptions in 2009.

Due to his performance and contribution to the team, Terrell Owens signed a seven-year $35 million contract to stay with San Francisco.

However, in the summer of 2004, Owens expressed his desire to leave the team. Unfortunately, Owens’ agent missed the deadline to void the final years of his contract which should have made Owens a free agent. Despite all of this, San Francisco was able to trade him to the Philadelphia Eagles where Owens signed a seven-year $48.9 million contract with a $2.3 million signing bonus.

Unfortunately, on December 19, 2004, Owens suffered a severely sprained ankle and fractured fibula due to Dallas Cowboys’ safety Roy Williams horse-collar tackled Owens. This caused Owens to miss the rest of the season with an outside chance of playing in the Super Bowl should the Eagles qualify.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game to book their ticket in Super Bowl XXXIX to face the New England Patriots. Despite the advice of his doctors, Owens played in the game where he had nine receptions for 122 yards. Unfortunately, the Eagles lost to the Patriots.

The following year, Owens hired a new agent aiming to have his contract with the Eagles renegotiated. During this time, Owens made a comment seemingly directed to team quarterback Donovan McNabb. On top of this, the Eagles ownership denied Owens permission to play basketball in the NBA summer league under the Sacramento Kings which increased the internal tension within the Eagles organization.

Owens was involved in a number of issues and controversies during the 2005 season which led to his suspension and deactivation from the team. And on March 14, 2006, the Philadelphia Eagles eventually decided to release Terrell Owens.

A few days after, Owens joined the Dallas Cowboys on a three-year $25 million deal with a $5 million signing bonus. In the following season, the Cowboys and Owens finally hit their stride. He was named as one of the starting wide receivers to represent the NFC in the Pro Bowl. Owens was also selected to the All-Pro team for that season.

Owens signed a three-year contract extension with the Cowboys worth $27 million. However, Dallas released him the following year. He then signed a one-year $6.2 million contract with the Buffalo Bills on March 7, 2009.

After one year with the Bills, Owens signed a one-year $2 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. In the 2011 offseason, Owens suffered a torn ACL.

Despite signing a one-year $990,000 contract with the Seattle Seahawks, he was eventually released by the team a few weeks after — that marks the last time Owens signed an NFL contract, making his last season with the Bengals his last in the NFL.

According to Spotrac, Owens earned a total of $79,628,334 during his 16-year career in the NFL.

Despite his on and off the field issues, there was no question that Terrell Owens is one of the greatest players during his time.

In 2018, Owens was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. However, Owens didn’t attend his induction ceremony and instead threw his own celebration at the McKenzie Arena in his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

The following year, the San Francisco 49ers honored Terrell Owens by inducting him to the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame.

“I am so humbled to be mentioned with the likes and greats of Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice and many others that have represented the San Francisco 49ers organization,” Owens said. I am honored to be inducted in the 49ers Hall of Fame as this is a special moment with a special group of individuals. Thank you, again, to the 49ers organization and 49ers Faithful.”

Terrell Owens appeared in various TV shows, movies, games, and celebrity appearances. He also had his own show called “The T.O. Show” in 2009 and a podcast named “Time Out with T.O.” in 2013.

Considering the money that he earned, all the business ventures and media appearances, and all of his off-the-field issues and controversies, were you surprised with Terrell Owens’ net worth in 2021?
