Coaches love it when their players exceed expectations. For Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, that seems to be what Terry Rozier is doing. According to a report by Steve Bulpett of The Boston Herald, the point guard has given himself his own green light to play Tuesday’s road game against the Milwaukee Bucks even though Stevens said earlier that Rozier is questionable for the Bucks game.

Rozier did not practice Monday, and coach Brad Stevens said he’d be questionable against the Bucks. But shortly thereafter Rozier declared himself in.

“I’m playing tomorrow for sure,” he said. “They just want me to take it easy and not practice today.”

Rozier sustained an ankle injury during the waning moments of last Saturday’s 110-99 win at home against the Toronto Raptors, but managed to play through it. The former Louisville court general even finished the game with 21 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and a steal in 37 minutes of action.

Terry Rozier’s importance to the Brad Stevens and the Celtics has been amplified of late due to the team’s thin backcourt. Boston is missing the likes of Shane Larkin, Marcus Smart, and Kyrie Irving because of various injuries, leaving a heavier-than-usual workload for Rozier, who is averaging 11.5 points, 2.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds per game so far this season.

With an increase in his usage by the Celtics, Rozier has managed to post improved averages of 18.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over his last 10 games. That stretch includes his 33-point explosion in a 104-93 road win against the Sacramento Kings on Mar. 25.
