Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks will play in the 2020 NFL regular season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

Cooks has been nursing a quadricep injury, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported he is active.

Cooks had previously been listed as questionable, though Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reported earlier this week the Texans have been managing Cooks' injury for some time now:

“Brandin Cooks, who's limited on injury report, doesn't have new quadriceps injury,” Wilson tweeted on Monday. “It's just the first official injury report. Team managed workload throughout camp as he rehabbed it. He didn't do a lot of full-team work. Looked fast, created separation in drills throughout camp”

The 26-year-old is no stranger to injury concerns, though most of them stem from concussion issues.

Cooks has suffered five “known” concussions in his career. However, he said last month he was not concerned about his history in that regard:

“For me, I'm not worried at all,” Cooks said, via ESPN's Sarah Barshop. “If there is any hesitation or worry, I wouldn't be here right now. But at the end of the day, things happen in this game that you wish don't happen. But when you start to learn through this process, you really start to get an understanding on what this is.”

In any case, the Texans will hope Cooks can stay healthy and emerge as a legitimate No. 1 receiver after they traded a second-round pick in order to acquire him from the Los Angeles Rams this offseason.

Cooks had gone over the 1,000-yard mark in four consecutive seasons prior to a disappointing 2019 campaign, and will look to get his career back on track in Houston.

Cook joins the Texans as they get a tough test to start the year, facing the Chiefs on the road to open the entire season of football.
