The Houston Texans tried to get tricky with DeAndre Hopkins on Sunday and it didn't work well ending in an interception. After the game, Texans coach Bill O'Brien took responsibility for the “bad play call.”

During the second quarter, Hopkins caught a backward pass from Deshaun Watson and tried to throw it out to Carlos Hyde. Instead of it being an easy catch like the Texans hoped, Carolina Panthers cornerback Ross Cockrell read the play the entire way and picked it off.

Watson said on film the cornerback ran with the tight end across the field which would have made it an easy throw, but it didn't work out the same way.

“It was a play that we saw on film, the corner was going to run with the tight end across the field,” Watson said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I threw it to Hop and I peeked and the corner didn’t move. At that time, I tried to wave my hand, but Hop was looking over there and didn’t see me. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. That’s what we did in that situation. Give them credit for staying disciplined and not running with it.”

The interception didn't cost the Texans the game but it was just another issue with the offense that needs to get worked out quickly. The biggest issue with the offense has been inconsistency. A couple of weeks ago they only put up 13 points against the Jacksonville Jaguars but they have also had great games like against the Los Angeles Chargers where they put up 27 points.

Going forward it needs to be all about the offense not struggling every other game.
