Houston Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney is angling for a new contract, and as a result, he has not been present during the Texans' offseason program thus far.

According to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle, Texans head coach Bill O'Brien has “no idea” when Clowney is going to report, saying that “it's up to him.”

It's important to note that all of the offseason activities have been voluntary up until this point, so it's entirely possible that Clowney ultimately shows up for the mandatory stuff.

But, there is also the possibility that Clowney holds out for a new deal, which Houston has until July to give him.

The Texans placed a franchise tag on Clowney earlier this offseason, and if he plays out the 2019 campaign on the tag, he will make just under $16 million before hitting free agency next offseason.

Clowney is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 15 games and registered 47 tackles, nine sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by Houston with the first overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He appeared in just four contests during his rookie year due to injury, and in his second season, he totaled just 40 tackles, 4.5 sacks and six passes defended.

It wasn't until Clowney's third year in the league where he started to show why the Texans used a No. 1 pick on him, making his first of three straight Pro Bowl appearances.
