The Houston Texans are hoping to make a statement against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2020 NFL season opener. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen if they will be at full strength with wide receiver Brandin Cooks nursing a quad injury.

Cooks has officially been listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Chiefs after getting limited practice time in, via Texans PR:

This star-studded showdown had already been billed as a potential shootout given the matchup under center between Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes. However, Cooks' absence would leave a rather notable void to fill in Houston's receiving corps and may deal a critical blow to their chances of keeping up with Kansas City's high-powered offense.

The Texans caught plenty of flak for the lopsided trade that saw wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins go to the Arizona Cardinals this offseason. They quickly tried to alleviate his departure by adding Cooks and wide receiver Randall Cobb in free agency, however, many have still considered it to be a downgrade from where they were. The former's uncertain status for Week 1 now only helps to solidify this notion.

Houston already had their work cut out for them preparing to keep up with Mahomes and his arsenal of weapons on offense. Should Cooks be forced to sit out, the onus will fall on Cobb, Will Fuller, and Kenny Stills to pick up the slack in the passing game for Watson.

Given Cooks' recent track record with missing games, it will be interesting to see if the Texans opt to take a cautious approach in order to avoid any potential setbacks down the road.
