The Houston Texans made a contract offer to running back Carlos Hyde, but Hyde declined, according to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle. That means Hyde will hit free agency next week.

The Texans acquired Hyde in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs just before the 2019 regular season began after Lamar Miller—who is also set to become a free agent—went down with a torn ACL in preseason.

Hyde went on to enjoy the most productive season of his NFL career, playing in every game and racking up 1,070 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round (57th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 14 contests during his rookie campaign, rushing for 333 yards and four scores while logging four yards per attempt. He posted similar numbers the next year, finishing with 470 yards and three touchdowns as a rusher while registering 4.1 yards per tote.

Hyde then broke out in 2016, totaling 988 yards while reaching the end zone six times, posting 4.6 yards per carry.

The Naples, Fl. native spent the first four years of his career with the 49ers before signing with the Cleveland Browns in free agency in March 2018.

He played just six games with the Browns in 2018, tallying 382 yards and five touchdowns before being traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he barely played.

Houston is entering free agency with a ton of cap room, so it can afford to re-sign Hyde if it so pleases, but it remains to be seen if the Texans want to go in another direction.
