The Houston Texans are continuing to try and find some help at the running back position, and that continues on Tuesday, as the team is reportedly working out running back C.J. Anderson, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Media (via Pro Football Talk).

Anderson initially signed with the Detroit Lions to start the season, but was released last week and is now trying to find a new home. After having a solid 2018-19 season, including a stellar postseason as he filled in for Todd Gurley with the Los Angeles Rams, Anderson is having trouble sticking with an NFL team this season.

As for the Texans, the team is still looking for a reliable back after Lamar Miller tore his ACL during the preseason. Although Duke Johnson is on the roster, the Texans still traded with the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire Carlos Hyde, who has been getting a majority of the work so far. Through three weeks, Hyde has carried the ball 40 times, with Johnson only getting 17 rushing attempts.

Should Anderson sign with the Texans, he’ll likely get a legitimate chance at making an impact for the team. During his brief time with the Rams last season, Anderson was a significant factor in the team making its Super Bowl run last season, as he ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Divisional playoffs.

Despite his postseason run, Anderson wasn’t able to get many snaps in Detroit, as he ran just 16 times for 43 yards in his two games with the team. In order for him to find a place to stick, he’ll likely need to continue showing that last season wasn’t a fluke, and a team like the Texans to give him a chance.
