The Houston Texans caught plenty of flak after head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien opted to trade wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. Running back David Johnson is adamant about upholding his end of the bargain in the 2020 NFL season.

The trade essentially netted the Texans Johnson and a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He admits O'Brien's confidence in him has helped serve as a motivating factor, via Mark Lane of the Texans Wire:

“I’m excited that Bill O’Brien came out and got me, and I’ll be ready for them once I get there,” Johnson told the Houston media on a conference call on April 17.

The restrictions placed by the NFL in response to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) have largely prevented new players from getting acquainted with their teams. Johnson is among those that are still anxiously awaiting for a fresh start with a change of scenery.

Parting ways with Hopkins in an effort to save money has only further solidified the notion that O'Brien is in the hot seat this offseason. Even if Johnson is able to get is career back on track in Houston, it will not matter much if they are struggling to find ways to win. Regardless, all he can do is try to provide the team with plenty of bang for their buck.

Johnson's versatile skill set could help him etch out a workhorse role with the Texans. It will be interesting to see if the new opportunity helps him spark a potential resurgence in the 2020 campaign.
