It’s not a good idea to make a large human being like Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt angry, but that’s what the NFL managed to do when the league fined the pass rusher’s brother, T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers, a sizeable sum of money for apparently just doing his job.

The play that got T.J. Watt’s wallet in trouble was an attempt by the Steelers’ linebacker to bother Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan in the pocket during last week’s 41-17 Pittsburgh win at Heinz Field. T.J. didn’t seem to make any contact at all, but it’s likely his interpreted intent on that play that the league is punishing him for.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the NFL determined that Watt tried to go after Ryan’s lower-body extremities.

NFL fined its co-sack leader, TJ Watt, $20,054 for “forcibly hitting in the knee area or below” Falcons’ QB Matt Ryan, per source. The league office instructed the Steelers to deduct the money from Watt’s paycheck if he does not appeal.

Naturally, the news didn’t sit well with J.J. Watt. In his eyes, his brother did nothing to deserve such a monstrous fine, the amount of which would burn a big hole in the pocket of T.J., who has a base salary of $885,884 this season.

The Steelers currently lead the entire NFL in sacks with 19.0 sacks due, in no small part, to the excellent pass rushing of T.J., who is tied with J.J. and Cincinnati Bengals veteran Geno Atkins for most sacks in the league with 6.0.
