Through the last several months, the Houston Texans have had two of their top talents on both sides of the ball in quarterback Deshaun Watson and defensive end J.J. Watt on the mend from respective significant injuries.

During that time, the two have continued to rehab together over much of the offseason. According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Watson voiced appreciation toward the chance to get through the process alongside Watt.

“It was similar as me,” Watson said. “We have the same mindset: grind and feel like we’re in last place, never get complacent, each and every day is an opportunity for us to get better and we know that we have a long way to go to get back to where we were but we understand the process.”

It is an encouraging sign that the two continue to make progress in their respective recoveries while motivating each other to keep pushing ahead. The rehab process can often become mentally draining, which is something that the support that each Watt and Watson have been beneficial.

The Texans have held out hope that each can be ready to take the field for the start of the 2018 season. Watson is working his way back from an ACL tear that he suffered last November that the coaching staff has continued voice that he is ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, Watt is still making his way back from a broken leg that he suffered back in October that he has continued to make encouraging steps forward in his recovery.

There may be plenty of time until the start of next season, but the two appear to be well on their way to being on the field for the 2018 campaign where they will play a significant role in helping lift the Texans in the playoffs.
