The bar keeps on getting higher following the lucrative contract of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Super Bowl LIV MVP Patrick Mahomes. Houston Texans gunslinger Deshaun Watson was next in line to get his massive paycheck from the team.

The 24-year old player looked back on his journey and bared his plans with the Texans moving forward via a post on Twitter:

Deshaun Watson agreed to a four-year, $160 million extension that averages to pay him $39 million annually. The deal includes a $27 million signing bonus and makes him the second-highest paid quarterback in the league after Mahomes. The agreement locks the fourth-year player with the Texans through the 2025 season.

After several failed experiments at the quarterback in previous seasons, the Houston-based team finally snagged their franchise cornerstone when they selected Watson with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The former Clemson Tiger was able to meet the high expectations of him as he garnered a PFWA All-Rookie Team selection and two Pro Bowl appearances in his first three seasons in the league. With him playing under center, the Texans eventually went from a cellar-dwelling team to a serious playoff contender in a couple of seasons.

However, Watson still faces a long road ahead of him in the early stages of his career. He will still have to lead the young franchise to its first Super Bowl appearance and eventually to a Lombardi Trophy.

The Texans are handing the keys of the franchise to Watson and we shall wait for the kind of success that he will attain with the team in the years to come.
