The Houston Texans reportedly worked out quarterback Lamar Jackson earlier this week. They did so despite the fact that Jackson could very well be off the board by the time the Texans finally make their first pick, which is all the way down in 68th.

That will be especially true if other teams share Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson’s belief that Jackson is arguably the best quarterback in the entire draft.

“I know he’s one of the best quarterbacks — if not the best — coming in the draft,” Watson said, per Vinnie Iyer of Sporting News. For any team that gets him, he’ll have the mind-set to keep improving. There are 32 teams and at least half of them will like Lamar Jackson. He’s going to be fine and can be great wherever he goes.”

Of course, Watson knows all about Jackson’s ability after the two squared off during college. The two share some similarities in terms of their dual-threat ability, which was likely why Houston was taking a closer look at Jackson if he somehow falls to them in the third round.

Although, there have been doubts about Jackson’s ability to translate his Heisman-winning talents to the pros, with former executive Bill Polian infamously suggesting that he should transition to receiver.

But with the NFL incorporating more and more college spread offense concepts into their systems – to the benefit of QBs like Watson and Nick Foles – there will likely be some teams that view Jackson as highly as Watson does and get him within the first couple of rounds.
