Deshaun Watson might hope to be playing for another team in 2021, but the Houston Texans have no interest in trading their star quarterback.

Newly appointed Texans general manager Nick Caserio said Friday the team plans to move forward with Watson under center:

“I just want to reiterate our commitment to Deshaun Watson,” Caserio said, via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. “We have zero interest in trading the player. We have a great plan and vision for him. We look forward to spending more time with him.”

Watson reportedly requested a trade over a week ago, with over half of the NFL inquiring as to his availability.

Interestingly, it was Caserio's hiring that really set Watson off.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported this month the Texans ignored recommendations from the search firm Korn Ferry prior to hiring Caserio. Watson was among those in the organization who were upset with the dismissal of Korn Ferry names, per Schefter:

Watson is said to be furious over the decision, and others are as well, with some saying that there will be employees who wind up leaving the organization during the offseason.

Caserio better set his “plan” in action, and fast.

The Texans and owner Cal McNair have come under tremendous scrutiny for their organizational dealings and the continued involvement of Jack Easterby. That criticism has even come from franchise icons such as Andre Johnson, who said Watson should stand his ground with respect to the trade demands.

Perhaps Caserio can be aggressive in making moves and building around Watson this offseason. But there is also the chance Watson refuses to play, which could eventually force Houston's hand.

In any case, the Watson saga is one to watch in the coming weeks and months as the Texans try to convince their star quarterback to stick around.
