The Houston Texans haven't gotten off to the start they envisioned this season, but they could be getting some much-needed help on defense. With the team looking for a spark on the defensive side of the ball, the Texans are bringing in Earl Thomas for a workout.

Back in August, Thomas was released by the Baltimore Ravens after getting into an altercation with Chuck Clark — another safety on the Ravens. Besides the incident with Clark, Thomas never seemed to fit into Baltimore's culture in the locker room.

Nevertheless, the All-Pro safety has been waiting for another opportunity in free agency since his release from the Ravens. And with Houston hurting at the safety position, Thomas could be a viable addition at this point in the season.

Following Houston's game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, the Texans placed A.J. Moore on injured reserve on Monday. Moore suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 and will miss an extended period of time. As a result of that, Houston is evidently in the market for a safety to replace Moore, along with improving the defense.

Before Thomas signed with the Ravens in 2019, the Texans were one of the teams that were rumored to be interested in him. However, during the free-agent process, Bill O'Brien questioned Thomas' competitive drive.

Fast forward to now and Houston is now bringing Thomas in for a workout on Monday. If the Texans are content with how the 31-year-old safety looks, then he'll need to pass COVID-19 protocols before signing a contract.
