The Houston Texans had been one of the only teams yet to request an interview with Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy for their head coach opening.

However, in light of recent frustration expressed by star quarterback Deshaun Watson, it seems the Texans have changed course, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

It is hard not to regard this as a move geared toward assuaging some of Watson's doubts.

The star signal-caller has reportedly grown more frustrated with internal proceedings after the Texans essentially ignored his suggestions for the previously vacant general manager position. There has been at least some indication he could seek a trade this offseason.

However, new Texans GM Nick Caserio was fairly insistent the team regards Watson as its franchise quarterback during his introductory press conference. He also said management would seek Watson's input. Perhaps bringing Bieniemy in for an interview is a step toward mending the relationship between Watson and the Texans.

Bieniemy has been one of the top candidates in each of the past two offseason periods, which only makes sense considering he has helped lead one of the most explosive offenses in football. Chiefs head coach Patrick Mahomes said it would be “crazy” for a team with a head coaching vacancy to pass on Bieniemy.

Whether Bieniemy actually rises to the top of Houston's wish list remains to be seen. Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley might be a strong candidate, especially given the Texans' struggles on that side of the ball.

However, the Texans will indeed interview Bieniemy, perhaps with Watson's future closely in mind. Houston went just 4-12 this season despite Watson having a monster season, with Bill O'Brien getting canned after an awful start.
