The Houston Texans are looking to make a serious offer to Tyrann Mathieu, but it looks like he'll test the market first, according to a new report.

But according to FanSided, this move is going to prove more than a little risky.

While the long-term deal — which will give him more than $9.5 million — but Mathieu's value has increased, significantly, since he first signed with the team. What's more, there's a strong chance that the Texans simply do not have the money to pay Mathieu what he's now worth.

Whether the Texans can afford to professionally let Mathieu go is a question that only the team can answer, however.

From FanSided:

“Tyrann Mathieu, who’s going into his seventh season in the NFL, signed a one-year deal with the Houston Texans for $7 million and he’s for certain to make more than that on a multi-year contract. Is Mathieu still worth re-signing? Absolutely — because his pros far outweigh his cons and the secondary would’ve been even worse than it already was had he not been present.”

A safety who played college football for Louisiana State University who developed a reputation for causing turnovers, setting a Southeastern Conference (SEC) record with 11 career forced fumbles and earning the nickname “Honey Badger,” Tyrann Mathieu has professional experience playing with the Texans and the Cardinals.

He was also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and earned first-team All-Pro honors back in 2015.

It will be interesting to see where Mathieu ultimately ends up, or if the move of the Texans ultimately pays off.
