Kenny Stills is expected to have a prominent role with the Houston Texans this season, but he won't be able to join the team at the beginning of training camp. According to the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Houston has placed Stills on the non-football injury list with an ‘illness'.

Of course, with a player having an illness amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some people will assume Kenny Stills could have tested positive for the coronavirus. However, seeing that he wasn't placed on the COVID-19 reserve list, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Last month, Kenny Stills was arrested in Kentucky after peacefully protesting in response to the death of Breonna Taylor. The veteran wideout was given felony charges for his involvement in the protests.

Following the head-scratching trade of DeAndre Hopkins this offseason, Kenny Stills could see an expanded role in 2020. Besides Stills, the Texans currently have Randall Cobb, Brandin Cooks, Will Fuller, and Keke Coutee at wide receiver.

Ahead of the 2019 season, the Texans acquired Kenny Stills from the Miami Dolphins as part of the Laremy Tunsil trade. In his first season in Houston, Stills hauled in 40 receptions for 561 yards and four touchdowns. With that being said, Stills is entering the final year of his contract with the Texans.

As teams begin training camp, they are attempting to make up for the missed time due to the implications of COVID-19. While the Texans attempt to deploy a new-look offense in training camp, Kenny Stills will have to wait to join the team ahead of the 2020 season.
