Prior to the trade deadline, the Houston Texans made the big splash move to acquire former Pro Bowl wide receiver Demaryius Thomas from the Denver Broncos, which has added another major asset to the passing game.

It has also ramped up the efforts in getting their new offensive weapon more acclimated and utilized in the game plan as head coach Bill O'Brien voiced the importance of getting Thomas involved more, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

“We’ve got to be able to use him more, even more than we did,” Texans coach Bill O'Brien said. “He had three catches. I think they were all basically almost on the first or second drive of the game. He’s a very smart guy, excellent pro.

“He was in here last week, meeting extra on Thursday, Friday, trying to get some more of the offense down. Go out there [Monday], have a lot of plays we ran in practice, knew where to line up, change his position, change his identity by personnel, knew what to do. I think we’re going to make a lot of strides with him from week to week.”

In his first action with the team in Week 9's 19-17 win over the Denver Broncos, he hauled in all three targets for 61 receiving yards, which included a 31-yard reception. Thomas had most of his work done early in the game in order to get him involved with some of the early stuff that he has learned with the offense.

That said, the Week 10 bye may allow him to expand on his role in the offense given that it is more time to digest and understand the playbook. This should certainly see more balls thrown his way as a result in order to utilize his big-play ability and effectiveness in a red zone due to his size and strength.

The 30-year-old has a chance to add another element to the offense as he has proven to be one of the league' most proven wide receivers. He has shown the ability in the past to excel as a No.1 wide receiver that saw him earn five Pro Bowl selections where he toppled 1,000 receiving yards and 90 receptions in each campaign. He now has a chance to provide second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson with a formidable dynamic duo in the passing game alongside Pro Bowl wideout DeAndre Hopkins, who is widely regarded as being one of the best wide receivers in the league.

It may simply be all on the Texans' shoulders to utilize properly his ability on the field that could help push them into contending for more than just the playoffs this season.
