The Houston Texans have seen some talent in their secondary leave, but are quick to replace it, as safety Tashaun Gipson has reportedly agreed to sign with the team.

According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Texans will be signing the safety to a deal, reportedly worth $22 million over three years.

While the specific details of the contract have yet to come out, it will be a big gain for the Texans, who saw both Kevin Johnson and Tyrann Mathieu leave in free agency.

After spending four seasons in Cleveland as a member of the Browns, Gipson joined the Jacksonville Jaguars and really bolstered his image as one of the better safeties in the league. Gipson has tallied 394 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 20 interceptions, and 2 touchdowns throughout his seven-year career, and the Texans will no doubt be hoping that he lifts those numbers even more.

After a rough 2017 season that saw the Texans finish 4-12, they rebounded behind quarterback Deshaun Watson and stellar play from their defensive unit.

Thanks to strong play from their secondary and a ferocious pass rush led by J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney, the Texans finished with one of the leagues top defenses and quickly returned to form as one of the better AFC South teams.

The team not only finished 11-5, but ended up winning the AFC South, only to lose to the division rival Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

This year, they'll likely be hoping for similar contributions from their defense to keep them in contention in a wide open AFC.
