The Houston Texans agreed to a deal with free agent safety Eric Murray on Monday—the NFL's first (unofficial) day of free agency. Murray, 26, last played for the Cleveland Browns, appearing in nine games for the northeastern Ohio franchise.

The four-year veteran defensive back signed a three-year, $20.25 million contract with the Texans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Murray, a 5-foot-11 cornerback, was a fourth-round selection by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Minnesota in the 2016 NFL Draft. Murray spent the first three seasons of his professional career with the Chiefs before the eventual Super Bowl LIV champs traded him to the Browns in April of last year for defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah.

In only nine games with the Browns, Murray recorded 24 combined tackles, three tackles for losses, and one quarterback hit. The Texans added Murray on a frenetic day for the franchise after parting with star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Murray joins a Houston secondary that includes safeties Tashaun Gipson and Justin Reid.

The Texans have been the talk of the NFL on Monday after parting with Hopkins and only receiving veteran running back David Johnson and two draft picks in the return. Houston does not have a first-round pick in next month's draft class and even after dealing their star receiver could not extract a first-rounder from Arizona.

Before losing his spot in Kansas City's secondary depth chart, Murray played in all but three games during the first three years of his NFL career.
