The Houston Texans made a gutsy decision on Sunday morning to part ways with D'Onta Foreman. The team announced that they waived Foreman—as first reported by John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

According to Ian Rapoport, the team grew frustrated with Foreman with his lack of effort over the past couple of seasons. The backup running back job is now wide open for the Texans as they continue their training camp.

In 2017, Foreman became a homegrown rookie after being drafted by the Texans in the third round of the draft. During his rookie season, Foreman flashed his potential in the offense after earning a decent-sized role in the backfield.

An injury to his Achilles in Week 11 of the 2017 season abruptly ended his season. His recovery would be extensive as he wouldn't return until later in the 2018 season.

Although, when he fought his way back, Foreman was seldom used in the offense with just nine total touches for 27 yards. Standing on the sideline became a way of life in 2018 for the Texas product.

Over the past couple offseasons, the Texans haven't liked the energy that Foreman has exuberated. The plan was for Foreman to be the immediate backup to Lamar Miller again in 2019 but those plans have been scrapped.

If you're an avid fantasy football player, the release of Foreman increases the stock of Miller this season. Although, this could also begin the rumblings of a possible trade for the Los Angeles Chargers disgruntled running back, Melvin Gordon.

Nonetheless, with the Texans waiving Foreman, Houston will likely be in the market for a veteran running back in the near future.
