The Houston Texans have been a steady presence in the playoffs since drafting J.J. Watt in 2011. With the star defensive end in their fold, the Texans have won the AFC South six times.

However, sustaining a deep postseason run has remained elusive for Houston. The franchise has not made it out of the divisional round since joining the league in 2002.  Their most recent appearance was just last season wherein the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs erased a 24-point deficit to emphatically put an end to Houston’s Super Bowl aspirations.

The Texans’ lack of playoff success is often a huge talking point in Houston, to which Watt has heard loud and clear.

“I understand the fans want to get past what we’ve gotten past. I want to get past where we’ve been. That’s the whole goal,” said Watt via Texans Wire.

The five-time Pro Bowler revealed that the Texans’ predicament is what drives him to do even better in pushing his physical boundaries.

“It’s literally why I wake up, go work out, put in the time, put in the effort, put my body through this. If that wasn’t my goal, I wouldn’t keep doing this after these injuries, I would have shut it down a long time ago.”

Watt has missed half of the regular-season games for the last four years battling numerous injuries. Instead of hanging his boots, the Texans star remains committed to bringing Houston to the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“But the goal is to bring this city a championship and that is why we’re putting in the work that we do.”
