Houston Texans star defensive tackle J.J. Watt is one of the best defensive players in football, and a legitimate franchise cornerstone.

But with the Texans stumbling out of the gates at 1-5, is it possible they would look to move the three-time Defensive Player of the Year?

Watt reacted to the possibility of a trade on Wednesday, saying his focus will remain on winning a Super Bowl with the Texans until he is no longer with the franchise:

“My goal since I got here was to bring a championship to the Houston Texans,” Watt said, via Adam Wexler of SportsTalk 790 in Houston. “That will remain my goal until I'm not a Houston Texan.”

There is a growing feeling the Texans will be one of the more notable “sellers” ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline. However, it seems like a stretch to suggest Houston would trade one of the faces of the franchise.

Simultaneously, however, Watt has just one year remaining on the six-year, $100 million contract he signed with the Texans in 2014. The two sides have yet to negotiate a separate deal, making it entirely possible the team could look to capitalize on his trade value when it is still at its highest.

Watt has had a decent 2020 campaign thus far, though he has hardly been the same kind of game-changer he was in the middle of the last decade. The 31-year-old has three sacks, three tackles for a loss and a forced fumble, though he also has three passes defended in just six games.

It still seems unlikely the Texans will trade Watt, especially now that they are hoping to transition from former head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien.

As for Watt himself, the focus remains on the work ahead.
