Through much of the offseason, Houston Texans Pro Bowl outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney has been on a steady recovery from a minor arthroscopic procedure on his knee back in January.

However, he has yet to receive full medical clearance since then but has remained hopeful toward making a return to the field at some point this offseason. With that in mind, Clowney has recently voiced that he feels that he's finally ready to return this upcoming season.

“I’m ready,” Clowney said, via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “I’m very excited. I’m looking forward to the season.”

This lack of availability may have led to some hesitance on the behalf of the Texans toward working out a new long-term deal with him Clowney. He is currently in the fifth-year option of his rookie deal where he is making roughly $12.3 million for the 2018 campaign, which has created consistent chatter around both sides working out a deal ahead of next season.

When healthy, Clowney has shown to be one of the league's top all-around defensive players behind his ability to be a major factor against both the run and as a pass rusher. He’s coming off a career-high 9.5 sacks in 2017 that helped earn his second straight Pro Bowl selection that has pushed the team to work out a long-term lucrative contract to pair him alongside three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt for the long haul.

It may simply lie on him first showing that he's recovered from his knee surgery that could see him be a major factor on the field next season and well beyond that. It will begin with his participation in training camp later this month, which it appears that he's already on track to be back on the field at some point in the near future.
