Laremy Tunsil was able to become the highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL on Friday and he deserves all of the credit for that being a possibility. According to the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson, Tunsil negotiated his $66 million extension directly with Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien.

Of course, most players in the NFL have their own personal agents that typically negotiate contracts. After their agent negotiates a deal, they'll proceed to show the contract to their client. Then, it will be up to the player on whether or not he is interested in signing the contract shown to him.

However, in Tunsil's situation, he didn't have an agent speak to the Texans about an extension. While he had advisors help him with the negotiations, Tunsil ultimately handled the contract talks by himself. Furthermore, Tunsil made sure he was the one that was speaking with O'Brien about an extension.

Prior to the 2019 season, Tunsil was traded to Houston in exchange for two first-round picks after spending his first three seasons with the Miami Dolphins. Besides Tunsil, Kenny Stills was also involved in the trade with the Dolphins.

In his first season with the Texans, Tunsil was able to put together his first Pro Bowl season. Following his career year, Houston wanted to make that he'd remain with the team moving forward.

Altogether, in his new deal with the Texans, Tunsil is going to receive a total of $66 million, with $57.8 million in guarantees. While his contract is impressive, it's even more impressive when you realize he negotiated it himself.
