Deshaun Watson isn’t used to playing second fiddle. After all, he was the center of attention on Dabo Swinney’s Clemson Tigers squad that went on to win the National Title last season.

But rookies will always be rookies in the NFL, and young guns like Watson are usually forced to hide in the shadows of the veterans before coming into their own.

That’s what’s expected of Watson this coming season, as Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has already named Tom Savage as the team’s starter. But, based on what New Orleans Saints players and coaches are saying of Watson (via Brett Martel of the Associated Press) following a Saints-Texans joint practice Thursday, it seems that everyone sees a bright future for the 2017 12th overall pick. Really, it's just a matter of time before he takes the league by storm.

“They've got experience (with Savage) and they've got a young player (in Watson) and I'm sure they're going to develop him as they see fit for their team,” [Sean ]Payton said.

There was perhaps no bigger compliment thrown Watson’s way than the one from Saints quarterback and Super Bowl champion Drew Brees, who liked what he saw from the Texans’ rookie quarterback.

“He's as talented as they come and he's played in and won a lot of big football games,” Brees said. “He's played extremely well against some pretty well respected teams and defenses – obviously, when you look at Alabama on defense and what he was able to accomplish against those guys over the last two years.”

The Saints had one of the worst defenses in the NFL last year, and there were plenty of mediocre quarterbacks that their unit made look like Pro Bowlers, but that shouldn’t diminish the value of the positive words that Watson received from a number of New Orleans' brass.
