Timmy Jernigan isn't going to the Houston Texans after all. Jernigan had reached a one-year deal worth $3.75 million back in April but he posted on Twitter that would no longer be the team he plays for this season. Additionally, he wrote on Instagram (via ESPN's Adam Schefter):

“Guess I’m not goin to Houston..but the show not ova.”

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the team has moved on from him because of his history of health issues and their surplus of players at the position:

“The Texans have moved on from veteran defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan due to a history of health issues along with their depth at the position, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.”

Jernigan's few seasons have been riddled with injuries. Including the playoffs, he only played 15 games the last two years with the Philadelphia Eagles. After the team's 2018 Super Bowl victory, Jernigan underwent back surgery and would only play five games. Last season, Jernigan missed six games as he dealt with a foot injury.

With the Texans, he was expected to be a low-cost rotational player in an attempt to replace nose tackle D.J. Reader, who left in free agency for the Cincinnati Bengals. It's clear now, though, that the team feels like that roster spot can be used on someone else, while giving more playing time to some of the younger players on the team.

With Jernigan back on the free-agent market it's unclear if there are any other teams with immediate interest. For a team looking for defensive line depth, it would seem that Jernigan would make a lot of sense as long as his health isn't a lingering issue.
