The Houston Texans saw their season come to an end with a 21-7 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs on Saturday, and with that, plenty offseason decisions need to be made.

One such decision is what to do with safety Tyrann Mathieu who will be a free agent.

Mathieu signed a one-year deal with the Texans last March following his release from the Arizona Cardinals and finished with 89 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, a fumble recovery, and eight passes defended.

After an impressive first season in Houston, Mathieu hopes to re-sign with the club, according to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle:

“I really want to be here,” Mathieu said. “I love this team, love the locker room, love the coaching staff. Hopefully, the business side will take care of itself. I definitely want to be here.”

Mathieu said that he has formed strong bonds with the rest of the team:

“It really goes both ways with a lot of these guys giving me life coming from a situation where I was cut and humbled,” said Mathieu. “A lot of these guys embraced me and gave me the confidence. Luckily, I was able to return the favor. These guys mean as much to me as I mean to them.”

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Cardinals in the third round (69th pick overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He had a great five-year run with Arizona, making the Pro Bowl and earning First-Team All-Pro honors in 2015, but he was released following the 2017 campaign after refusing to take a pay cut.
