The Jacksonville Jaguars have no sense of direction at the moment. Doug Marrone may or may not be out of town and the team recently parted ways with Tom Coughlin.

Rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew has been starting games for Jacksonville with Nick Foles on the bench. The Jaguars gave Foles a four-year, $88 million deal. That was a complete panic move to pay for an extremely mediocre player. Another issue is, outside of Leonard Fournette and D.J. Chark, Jacksonville is lacking offensive production.

The Jaguars drafted Chark in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has come into his own this season with 974 yards and eight touchdowns. Jacksonville could get similar value with Collin Johnson out of Texas.

Johnson Could Be A Mid-Round Target

No matter who the quarterback is in Jacksonville next season, they will need someone who can catch the ball. This is a receiver heavy draft with players like Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb, and Henry Ruggs III. The Jaguars will be picking in the top 10 and could decide to go for one of those top players.

They have selected a wide receiver in the first round four times in their history. Let's not forget how Justin Blackmon worked out. That enough should be enough to make them wait.

Chark proves that receivers can be found later in the draft. The days of drafting a receiver in the top 10 are long gone. The Jaguars have other needs that they could address early. A player like Johnson will be available for them on day two.

Johnson played six games this season for Texas. In 2018, Johnson finished the season with 985 yards and seven touchdowns. He is a big target at 6-foot-6 and could turn into a red zone threat. He has the making of a mismatch in the red zone because of his size and his ability to catch anything near him. That is Johnson's best asset. He has strong hands and his catch radius is extremely large. The one knock on Johnson is his route running. He does not have the speed to create separation and looks stiff at times when running routes.

To make the jump to the NFL, Johnson will have to become a polished route runner. This alone will keep him out of the first and possibly second round. Johnson is a day two prospect who will help a team using his size and ability to catch the ball. He is one of the most reliable receivers in the draft. The Jaguars could pair Johnson and Chark to create a core with two young receivers with great size.
