In many countries, the idea of being obliged to serve in the military is a foreign concept.

That's not the case in Greece, the home of NBA brothers Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo. As per Naftemporiki, the Greek Freak and his sibling reported for duty with the Armor Branch Training Center in Avlona, Athens on Wednesday, as part of their mandatory service.

Although they will not have to serve the whole three month term (according to WTMJ.com’s Jay Sorgi), the athletes are obliged to give their official army oaths at the beginning of August. On Wednesday night, they spent the night in the barracks, alongside fellow trainees.

The brothers, especially Giannis, have displayed monstrous athletic ability that would surely benefit an army during combat, but it is highly unlikely that they will be put into that situation given their status as professional basketball players.

Thanasis, who is now 23, spent last season playing in the NBA D-League playing for the Westchester Knicks. His younger brother, Giannis, is heading into his fourth year as a NBA player. He is set to lead the surge for a young and exciting Milwaukee Bucks team in the next few years after recently being moved over to the point guard position.
