With the Carolina Panthers releasing Cam Newton, he is free to choose any team to continue his career, and there are a few good options.

There is no doubt injuries are a concern, but when healthy, he has a lot of talent and something a lot of teams could use. The Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and Miami Dolphins could make sense but they aren't the best option.

The New England Patriots are looking for a quarterback, and it makes a lot of sense for them to get Cam Newton in town as soon as possible.

Patriots' current quarterback options

With Tom Brady signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it has left the Patriots in a hard position, and the quarterbacks on the roster aren't going to lead them to the playoffs.

Brian Hoyer, Cody Kessler, and Jarrett Stidham are the three guys currently under center for the Patriots. Hoyer has the most experience, but he hasn't ever really led many teams to a lot of success. During his career, Hoyer has made 38 starts, winning only 16 of them.

Kessler doesn't really have any real shot to start, and it's hard to imagine he is going to be on the roster once the season starts. Stidham was drafted as a project, and there is a chance he could still be the long-term option for the Patriots.

Sitting and learning behind a veteran wouldn't be the worst thing, and Newton could be the perfect guy.

So why Cam Newton?

Newton has had a lot of injury issues, but when healthy he is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league. His abilities with his legs make him a problem for defenses, and it would give Bill Belichick another weapon for the offense to use.

During the 2017 season, Newton went 11-5 with the Panthers while throwing for 3,302 yards and 22 touchdowns. Interceptions have been an issue for Newton, but the good comes with the bad. The Patriots' are also lacking playmakers on the outside, which makes Newton's dual-threat even more important.

The best part about signing Newton is the low risk that comes with it. Sign Newton to a one or two-year deal that is heavy with incentives. If it doesn't work out, the team moves on from him with nothing lost besides a little money.

If Newton can stay healthy and he has success, the Patriots have their quarterback for the next few years and would be a threat again in the AFC.
