With Genshin Impact‘s Zhongli banner almost done, it's finally time for another top-tier 5-star character. Eula joins the roster along with her claymore and her prowess with the Cryo element. Hailing from Mondstadt, Eula the Spindrift Knight leads the Knights of Favonius’ Reconnaissance Company as Captain. She is ready to protect the walled city using the Cryo Vision bestowed upon her. She is proficient at dealing heavy strikes and chilling blows to foes and bosses alike.

As revealed in the trailer, Eula is a 5-star claymore-wielding Cryo character. She's capable of doing immense physical damage along with Cryo abilities that provide the other half of the Superconductor reaction. Having a somewhat selfish set of abilities has its downsides, like the lack of high-damaging elemental reactions. However, this doesn’t hinder Eula from performing well where she shines best. Just as players think that the raw physical DPS archetype is outdated, Eula turns such a notion on its head. If you’re looking for a character that can deal with almost any content in Genshin Impact, that's Eula.

Eula Abilities Overview

Eula’s Elemental Skill, Icetide Vortex, has two effects based on whether you pressed or held the button. When pressed, Eula performs a swift slash that deals Cryo DMG. She gains a stack of Grimheart which can stack twice. Grimheart stacks increase Eula’s interruption resistance, while also contributing 30% DEF each. When held, Eula consumes her Grimheart stacks and deals AoE Cryo DMG to enemies in front of her. In addition, it decreases enemy Physical and Cryo RES. Each consumed stack leads to an Icewhirl Brand, dealing Cryo DMG to foes nearby.

Similar to how Diluc uses his Elemental Skill, Icetide Vortex has a low cooldown and creates an Elemental Reaction. Consuming Grimheart stacks has an additional effect: it reduces enemy resistance to Physical and Cryo damage. So, what you want to do is to  ‘press’ twice for stacks and then consume them using the ‘hold’ effect.

Eula’s Elemental Burst, Glacial Illumination, causes her to deal Cryo damage around her. It creates a Lightfall Sword that follows her for 7s. This Lightfall Sword passively increases Eula’s resistance to interruption. Whenever Eula deals damage, her Lightfall Sword gains charges. These then explode after the duration dealing massive Physical DMG to enemies.

This ability has insane numbers. At skill level 6, Glacial Illumination damage is 343.84%. Meanwhile, the Lightfall Sword has a base damage of 533.5%, with an additional 109% per stack. With a skill this strong, it makes sense that it has a cooldown of 20s and an energy cost of 80. We don’t know yet what the maximum number of Lightfall Sword stacks one can achieve, but we know that it’s going to be A LOT of damage.

While Cryo goes first, the final explosion deals Physical damage. This assures that Eula really is a Physical damage carry, not Cryo.

Best Weapon Build for Eula in Genshin Impact

Claymores might seem uninteresting in Genshin Impact, but Eula has a lot of good picks across the board.

Song of Broken Pines – The new Weapon Wish drop has a great potential for Eula. While its Physical DMG substat isn't impressive, it has the highest base ATK. Its passive also provides a good 12% increased ATK SPD, which helps for a slow-attacking weapon.

Serpent Spine – Good base ATK, high Crit Rate substat, and a passive that provides a damage multiplier. This weapon can be obtained from the Battle Pass, and is definitely the best pick among the 4-star options. Its passive requiring a selfish play style does not pose a downside for Eula. She enjoys this thanks to her Elemental Burst wearing off if she leaves the field.

Snow-Tombed Starsilver – This weapon can be obtained from a Dragonspine quest recipe. It has a great base ATK and a passive that has synergy with Eula. The best thing about this weapon is its massive Phys DMG% substat, maxing out at 34.5%.

Best Artifact Build for Eula in Genshin Impact

Pale Flame – 2 Piece: Physical DMG is increased by 25%. 4 Piece: When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, ATK is increased by 9% for 7s. This effect stacks up to 2 times and can be triggered once every 0.3s. Once 2 stacks are reached. The 2-set effect is increased by 100%. Pale Flame might be tailor-made for Eula, thanks to its 4-piece taking effect after two instances of her Skill, which is awfully similar to how her Grimheart stacks work.

Mixed Sets – No other 4-piece set in Genshin Impact can beat Pale Flame. That is unless you have better substats on certain 2-pieces you might own. If your Pale Flame pieces have a lot of undesirable substats, you can mix them with a 2-piece Bloodstained Chivalry or Gladiator

Team Build for the Spindrift Knight

Eula’s play style is quite selfish, and thus requires your choice of supports to revolve around augmenting her. Mainly due to her Elemental Burst expiring once she leaves the field, she discourages switching to your supports while it’s up.

Eula being a Cryo character helps a lot with her being a Physical carry, as she only needs one Electro support to enable Superconductor for her. Fischl comes in great because of her ability to also deal significant damage apart from creating reactions. Her downside is the lack of AoE Electro application. Another great support is Beidou who specializes in AoE Electro damage. Beidou makes the perfect choice for dealing Superconductor on a big group of enemies.

Cryo resonance makes for one of the better resonance effects among others. Having another Cryo character boosts Eula’s Crit Rate by 15%, while also providing well-needed energy for her costly Elemental Burst. The best Cryo supports for Eula come from Rosaria and Diona. Rosaria’s Elemental Burst has amazing Cryo application and deals decent damage to boot. Meanwhile, Diona provides great energy generation, decent shields, and more importantly, strong healing thanks to her Burst.

There are also a few good general supports for Eula which can enhance her in various ways.

Crowd control characters like Zhongli, Venti, and Sucrose are great for grouping up enemies for Eula to sweep in one big strike. Since Sucrose’s Viridescent Venerer passive does not reduce Physical Resistance, Zhongli stands to be the better pick. His durable shield and Physical RES shred enemies thanks to his Jade Shield.  Despite being Cryo, Freeze compositions don’t work well with Eula due to being a claymore user.
