It is amazing to think that the Jacksonville Jaguars are two years removed from an AFC Championship Game appearance. In 2017, the Jaguars finished 10-6 and saw their season end in Foxborough like many teams have during the Bill Belichick era. Here in 2019, Jacksonville has quickly fallen from grace and seems to have no sense of direction.

The Jaguars are 4-9 this season and have once again found themselves in the basement of the AFC South, a place where they have called home for many years. Tom Coughlin is the Vice President of Football Operations in Jacksonville and there is no doubting that he is disgusted with the product on the field. Changes need to be made in all aspects.

Head Coach

Jaguars, Doug Marrone, Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew
CP

When a team is rebuilding, it must start with the head coach. Doug Marrone has bought time after the team's AFC title game appearance but that time has run out.

The Jaguars have lost 19 of their last 25 games with many of those coming by a double-figure margin. The eye test shows that they are not playing with any excitement or energy. They look like a team that has quit and that is on the head coach.

Coughlin will not come down from the front office and coach the team, but that is their best option if they want to win. Jacksonville will need to bring a coach in a tough coach to get the most out of his players.

Quarterback

Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew

Is Mark Brunell the last good quarterback the Jaguars have had? No one thought it could get worse than taking Blake Bortles third-overall but it has. Jacksonville signed Nick Foles to a four-year, $88 million contract before the season. After an injury and some putrid performances, he has been benched for rookie Gardner Minshew.

This is not a good situation. Obviously, a team cannot win in the NFL without an effective quarterback. Minshew could end up being a good player down the line, but he is not a finished product and has a lot to learn. Could Eli Manning finally end up in Jacksonville in 2020? No matter who it is, the Jaguars need to figure out their quarterback situation immediately.

Defense

Calais Campbell

The Jaguars made their run to the AFC Championship Game on the back of their defense. Now, Jalen Ramsey is in Los Angeles and there is no identity on the defensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, Myles Jack is on injured reserve along with Marcell Dareus.

There is still talent on defense with Calais Campbell and A.J. Bouye, but it is not the same as 2017. Jacksonville has lost five in a row and is allowing 34.8 points per game over that span. They have given up 40 points three times this season. The performance in Jacksonville has spoken for itself. It is time for a massive overhaul.
