The Indianapolis Colts are way ahead of schedule in regards to their current roster and a trip to the postseason in the 2018 season proved that. The Colts are a complete team in the making, but they do lack a few key pieces to take them to the next level. One area of need is a pass rush and the Colts lacked that aspect of their defense last season in a big way. There is still one key free agent out there waiting to find a place to play in 2019. That name is none other than Ndamukong Suh, who is fresh off a Super Bowl appearance with the Los Angeles Rams.

While the Rams are likely the front runners to sign Suh for next season, if he opts to go elsewhere, the Colts are a very solid option. Suh could bring his dominant veteran presence to a defense that really has nothing in terms of a seasoned vet on that side of the ball. Indianapolis also has cap space that no other competing franchise currently possesses.

The Colts have plenty of solid pieces on defense and even saw linebacker Darius Leonard play his way to a Defensive Rookie of the Year award and first team All-Pro selection. The Colts secondary offers a lot of talent and potential as well, so a player like Suh would be a fantastic complement to a team in need of a dominant presence on the defensive front.

The Colts were amongst the bottom half of the league in regards to total sacks, as they had only 38 sacks on the season. To say Suh would come in and record double-digit sacks next season is highly unlikely.

Suh was able to give Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald extra breathing room last season and Donald had his best season yet, recording 20.5 sacks and winning Defensive Player of the Year. Suh could easily open up areas for other players to break through and his presence requires an incredible amount of attention from opposing offensive lineman.

The Colts are on the brink of Super Bowl contention now that all the pieces they have been working on over the years are finally falling into place. Quarterback Andrew Luck was back and healthy for the entire 2018 season, returing to elite form. The offensive line is amongst the best in the league along with the offense as a whole, and now it's time to work on getting defensive help.

Although the Colts have a great group of players on defense, Suh offers a lot of  great qualities that any team would love to have. Suh's large body is a nightmare to defend and his knowledge of the game is invaluable so it's simply a matter of time before an inquiring team reaches out to him.

At this point in his career it's likely he'll really only have contending teams on his radar, so the Colts are very much in the realm of possibilities for Suh. As the 2019 approaches, it's unclear exactly where Suh will play next season, but the Colts should make it a point to give Suh some strong consideration to take their defense over the edge.
