The NFL has no middle class this season as teams tend to be in the double digits in the wins column or are part of the logjam of bottom dwellers fighting for better positioning in the NFL Draft.

On the daily Locked On NFL Draft Podcast, Trevor Sikkema and Benjamin Solak discussed what the NFL’s lack of the middle class has done for NFL Draft positioning and how teams will approach week 17.

Solak: It is embarrassing but exciting to see that there are eight teams with four to five wins. That is fun. It is not good. But it is fun. If New England loses Monday night to Buffalo, there will be one seven-win team and two eight-win teams. There is no middle class this year. The entire AFC playoff picture has 10 wins and there are going to be two teams with eight wins or fewer in the NFC playoff picture. The disparity is nuts, but it is so bottom-heavy in records this year so that low-key creates a very important week 17 schedule for draft order positioning. I hate the fact that I am about to say this, but this is the sort of thing that we live for, you know. You have to lose games to get a good spot. So you are looking at the Eagles against the Washington Football Team. The Eagles are out of playoff contention and then Cowboys, 6-9, against the Giants, 5-10, the winner of that game could potentially win the division if they beat Washington. That game is going to be huge for Draft positioning. You have the New York Jets on a two-game winning streak against the Patriots who are likely to be 6-9. It could be a huge position for the Patriots as they could be looking for a fringe quarterback.
