The 2019 NFL Draft saw two tight ends get selected in the first round. T.J. Hockenson and Noah Fant were both top-20 selections. In 2020, Jacob Breeland could continue the trend of first round tight ends.

Breeland has quickly emerged as one of Justin Herbert's favorite targets. He has 26 catches for 405 yards and six touchdowns. That is an average of 15.6 yards per reception. Breeland has been one of the biggest risers in mock drafts since they started to be put together. He is a true pass catcher with great hands who can make catches in traffic.

Going in the first round is no guarantee for Breeland, but it is a possibility. If he is available in the second round, there is one team that could snatch him up — the Washington Redskins.

Redskins go tight end in round 2?

In 2015, there was no chance that the Redskins thought they would need a new tight end when they had a 25-year-old catching 87 passes for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns. Jordan Reed was one of the best tight ends in football, but his career has been derailed by injuries. Reed has never played 16 games in a single season in his career. He has yet to step on the field this season.

The Redskins have been playing with little to no offensive weapons. Vernon Davis has had some nice moments in a Redskins' uniform over the last two years. At 35 years old, Davis is not a long-term option. He has also been placed on IR with a concussion.

Right now, the Redskins are rolling with Jeremy Sprinkle, who is not a skilled pass catcher. Sprinkle is a young tight end who is an excellent blocker, but they need someone to catch the ball.

Washington is one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. They will hold a high pick in this upcoming draft. Breeland could be a second-round option. If that is the case, the Redskins will have to trade into the round. They sent their 2020 second-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts for the No. 26 pick, which they used to draft Montez Sweat. They do have a third-round pick where Breeland was originally supposed to land, but his stock has been rising.

The Redskins have made some big draft day moves in recent years. They will have a top-five pick this year, so there is no reason to move up or into the first round. If a deal presents itself, do not be surprised to see Washington move into the second to take the Oregon tight end.
