Immerse yourself in the 12th-century tragic poem “Khrosrow and Shirin” in this narrative-driven video game adaptation of the poem, The Tale of Bistun. In this game, players take control of a stone carver who wakes up on Mount Bistun. Having lost his memory, the stone carver needs to find shelter or else fall into the hands of dangerous foes, brought about by a mysterious blight. Fighting through different mythical enemies will bring the player closer to uncovering his past, and by doing so the player will also travel between the real world and an ethereal place of forgotten memories, known as the Revelations Realm. The game’s story is told by an omniscient narrator, similar to games like Bastion. The stone carver himself tells his story through stone engravings that he carves throughout the surface of Mount Bistun.
The Tale of Bistun brings forward a culture that doesn’t get a lot of love in video games in recent years. Putting Persian mythology forward to the forefront exposes a lot of players to a culture that doesn’t get touched on a lot. For those looking for a fantasy game that is somewhat new in terms of themes and scope, then The Tale of Bistun might be the game for you. A demo is out now on Steam for those who want to get a trial run in before fully committing to the game.
The Tale of Bistun will be coming out on both PC on both Steam and the Epic Games Store and as an Xbox console exclusive.
